2020 Honoree Bio:

Dr. Akinpelu is a technical and organizational leader with over 30 years of experience modeling and developing operations and information systems. She is an active member of the Hopkins Engineering Alumni. She also is a founding member of a mentoring program for Morgan State University students organized by professional staff at JHU/APL. Dr. Akinpelu received a BA in Mathematics from Duke University, where she graduated magna cum laude in 1975. She holds a PhD in Mathematical Sciences from The Johns Hopkins University Whiting School of Engineering, awarded in 1980. From 1980 to 1992, Dr. Akinpelu held various positions as Member of Technical Staff and Technical Manager in Bell Laboratories and AT&T Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ and Middletown, NJ. From 1992 until 2005, Dr. Akinpelu was a director at AT&T Laboratories in Middletown, NJ, managing a staff of over 200 people and a budget of up to $36 million to provide technology for planning, engineering, provisioning and maintenance of the AT&T long distance network. In January, 2006, Dr. Akinpelu joined the Applied Physics Laboratory  where she developed analytical and simulation models for intelligence information assurance. In 2012, she became the Assistant Branch Supervisor of the Applied Information Sciences Branch in the Asymmetric Operations Sector. Dr. Akinpelu has taught in the Mathematics Departments at Monmouth University in Long Branch, NJ and Ocean County College in Toms River, NJ. Since 2008, she has been a lecturer in the Applied and Computational Mathematics Program in the Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals. Dr. Akinpelu is an active member of the Hopkins Engineering Alumni. Dr. Akinpelu is married to Akinwale Akinpelu and has two sons, Adesola and Adeyinka
